CF Educational Services is a Canadian owned and operated business, specializing in Canadian products for learners of all ages. Novel Studies for Young Readers is just one of three divisions created and developed by CF Educational Services since 1988.
Novel Studies for Young Readers, is a collection of fun learning activities created by professional Canadian teachers. They’re purchased by teachers, tutors and parents for children 6 – 12 years of age. Each unit of study is a mini resource manual, designed to accompany one of the stories written by Robert Munsch (a popular Canadian author of children’s stories). All our manuals include activities which promote the development of reading, writing, speaking, listening and thinking skills in the English language. But each one is unique in the sense that we don’t use a template. Each resource manual is based on the theme and content of the story itself. One manual might include activities such as simple card games based on the key words students will encounter during a research project. Another manual might feature a silly song to sing or an exciting board game to play. Another manual might feature poetry reading and writing, or a play to perform through puppets – or with friends. Problem solving in creative ways and critical thinking skills, are developed through some of the tasks we present.
The content of each Resource Manual is unique when compared to those produced by other companies, in 2 other ways.
We include activities based on the educational philosophy of William Glasser; and, we incorporate elements of the Virtues Project whenever it’s appropriate. www.williamglasser.org and www.thevirtuesproject.com. Academic abilities are important; however, we need to be mindful of a child’s social development. It’s essential to include strategies to help our children build good relationships with others, too. We believe positive, effective communication skills, built on a strong foundation of positive universal values, can secure a better world-wide society for our “tomorrow”.
Children love Robert Munsch stories. These classics are remembered and enjoyed, well beyond a child’s days in kindergarten!
Our NOVEL STUDIES (www.4youngreaders.ca) are for 4 kinds of learners:
They satisfy the learning needs of –
- Those working at a regular grade level.
- Those working at below grade level for whom regular classroom activities are stressful and help from others is available.
- Those exceptional/gifted students who are finished their classroom assignments and want a challenge or who want a fun learning activity for homework.
- Those ESL learners/and students who have language learning disabilities or, who are dealing with both kinds of problems.
We hope you and your children will have fun completing the tasks we’ve provided. BUT . . . to be successful, each student needs a true copy of the storybook in hand, or at least 1 book to be shared by 2 students sitting side by side. Be sure you have enough copies!!!!
